Founded in 2025 by Yann LeCun and Alexandre Lebrun following LeCun’s departure from Meta, AMI (Advanced Machine Intelligence) is a Paris-based AI research lab on a mission to build the next generation of artificial intelligence that genuinely understands the physical world rather than predicting text.

Unlike large language models, AMI develops “world models”: AI systems that learn from continuous, real-world data to reason about cause and effect, plan ahead, and interact with dynamic environments. Built on JEPA (Joint Embedding Predictive Architecture), AMI’s research is designed to unlock applications across healthcare, robotics, autonomous systems, and beyond.

Open by conviction, AMI shares its research and code with the broader scientific community, believing that progress accelerates through collaboration. In March 2026, the company closed a $1.03 billion seed round — the largest ever by a European startup — backed by strategic and financial partners across three continents.
